The Early Years

By 1985, a three-part upgrade of AutoCAD allowed users to obtain both new features and to access the most recent version of the product.

It is important to note that in the early years of AutoCAD, the product was sold directly to architectural and engineering offices as opposed to being distributed to the end-user. Autodesk was a company that did not want end-users to have the opportunity to return the product if they were unhappy with the experience. Instead, Autodesk wanted the product to be sold to companies that were not familiar with computers, enabling them to achieve their goal of providing a turnkey product. In cartilage tissue engineering, chondrogenic differentiation and cartilage formation are two main objectives of cartilage tissue engineering. However, it is difficult to enhance chondrogenesis or cartilage formation in this process. TGF-β1 is a potent inducer of mesenchymal stem cell chondrogenesis in vitro and in vivo. The purpose of the present study was to investigate whether TGF-β1 alone or in combination with IGF-I or dexamethasone could enhance chondrogenesis and cartilage formation of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hBMMSCs). In our study, human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells were isolated and cultured. Then, cells were treated with TGF-β1, IGF-I and dexamethasone, and the effects of these factors on cartilage formation and chondrogenesis were assessed. We found that IGF-I and dexamethasone promoted chondrogenesis in cells treated with TGF-β1, whereas TGF-β1 or dexamethasone alone did not. These results indicate that TGF-β1 combined with IGF-I and dexamethasone enhanced chondrogenesis of hBMMSCs. These observations suggest that the TGF-β1+IGF-I+dexamethasone combination could enhance chondrogenesis and cartilage formation of hBMMSCs in vitro.Les Bourgeois
